Lead generation is simply the method used to gather contact details and names of potential clients who will be contacted by the salespeople for getting orders.

Lead generation is mainly used to find leads or people who are potential clients (that is, they are likely to become clients currently or in the future).

The contact details often obtained with lead generation include email ID, and the name of the organization, all of these details can then be used to develop a business relationship with these people.

There are many ways of generating leads; they can be generated organically or by spending some money if you have the resources.

Some of the most common methods of lead generation include;

1. Content Marketing

This is the method of lead generation that involves the creation and distribution of content mainly for education and not for selling.

This type of content can be made in different formats including white papers, blogs, case studies, videos, and infographics.

The main principle behind this idea is to attract clients with a piece of good content that is relevant to your business and asks them to provide their contact details before they can access the content. 

2. Social Media Marketing

In recent times, social media marketing has become one of the most effective marketing strategies available.

This is mainly because social media platforms like LinkedIn and Facebook have developed to become some of the most popular and most commonly used sites on the web.

Every social media platform can now be used for lead generation but the type depends on the nature of your business. Social media platforms like Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook, and Instagram are great for B2C while LinkedIn is great for B2B.

Social media can be used for lead generation by posting relevant content on them or paying for ads that run on networks. 

3. Email Marketing

Email is often referred to as one of the most important components of every marketing campaign.

It can be used to develop an interactive one-to-one conversation with a person.

Whenever you are releasing a new product, or hosting an event or promoting a new service, or interacting with clients, email is considered to be one of the best methods of communication.

However, this strategy is more effective on people that are aware of your brand and product or service before as it would be much easier to convince them to take action since they have subscribed to your list.

This method of lead generation comes in many forms including image, text, audio, and video.

These ads can be gotten on relevant websites to get more visitors to your website.

This method of lead generation is often used to target various demographic or behavioral actions.

You can choose the sites you want your ads to be seen by selecting an online publication that you think your potential buyers might spend some time in or use an ad with a redirect link that leads people directly to your website.

This method of lead generation can be used to reach more of your potential clients. 

5. Pay Per Click (PPC) Ads

This is a form of online ads that can be gotten by paying search engines like Yahoo, Bing, and Google to display your ads in their search results.

And because search engines are the primary method of navigating the internet, it is a very effective method of lead generation.

Your ads will appear as sponsored at the top and side of the organic search terms.

When people click on this type of ad, they are taken to a landing page that will collect the lead’s contact details.

However, for this method of lead generation to be effective, you have to use keywords that are relevant to your target audience.


This method of lead generation is a great way to promote your new content, product, or services.

Also, since this method of lead generation is highly targeted, it can be used to generate high-quality leads.

Various advertisers often have to bid on keyword phrases that can be used to gain the attention of their target audience.

These ads will be displayed when a keyword query matches the keyword list you have chosen.
