Digital products are the in thing nowadays because almost everyone wants to create and sell them to make a profit on the internet. Throughout the years, digital products have been effectively offered to a large number of individuals with informative information.
Launching your digital product can seem like quite an intimidating task, especially if it’s the first of its kind that you have created. However, you can greatly simplify this process by following these 7 tips for launching a successful digital product.

1. Identify your audience
Who is your target audience? What are their needs? Before you invest any time or money into creating your digital product, do some market research and make sure you’re in creating something that will be truly useful. Don’t be afraid to ask for honest feedback from friends, family, and your network; if people don’t think it’s valuable, no one will buy it.

2. Consider your price
You may want to offer your digital product at $10, or even $0.99, but it’s vital to consider your price carefully. While one might think that less money means more downloads and thus more exposure, a lower initial cost doesn’t necessarily mean an increase in sales of later products in an ongoing series. Additionally, if you’re offering free content on social media sites as part of promoting your launch (which I think is a smart way to go about it), too much free stuff can result in people not being willing to pay later.
3. Have a defined call-to-action
If there’s one thing that people (especially newbies) don’t do right when creating digital products, it’s crafting a Call-to-Action (CTA) that inspires users to actually take action. A CTA is meant to tell your readers exactly what they should do next.

It can be as simple as Learn More or Click Here to Buy Now. Make sure that you have a clearly defined CTA with every landing page so that users know exactly how you want them to act. If you don’t put a clear CTA on your landing page, your sales will suffer greatly.
4. Brand your product RIGHT
What does your product do, who is it targeted at and what benefits does it bring to its target audience? What are your brand’s key values? Think about everything from appearance to packaging to how you describe your product. Is it fun? Educational? Serious?
Once you know who your target audience is and how they want to feel about your brand, you can make decisions on how best to market and advertise your digital product.

5. Set realistic expectations
Setting realistic expectations is one of the most important key ingredients when launching a successful digital product. Don’t get caught up in your own hype! Instead, focus on what you really want to accomplish. Do you want to launch one digital product? Or do want to build an entire business around digital products?
Try to be as specific as possible about what you’re trying to achieve. If it’s just one product, that’s great! Figure out why it makes sense and whether it will help your audience. If it’s part of a bigger plan, that’s also great – you might need just some extra time or resources to make it happen.
6. Focus on marketing, NOT sales
To launch a successful digital product, you first have to make sure your marketing plan is on point. It’s tempting to go straight for those BIG revenue numbers, but it can be difficult at the end of the day – if not possible – to reach them without an effective marketing strategy behind you.
Focus on making an impact with your initial marketing push and, from there, use that momentum as fuel to help promote your product again and again until it’s become part of a bigger business, How do you do that? Well, focus on your audience; your audience will determine what kind of content you should create, how much time you should spend on creating it, and even how often you should post new material.
If your audiences’ are primarily women in their 40s who live in rural areas, then chances are good that they’ll want something different than a group of millennial men living in New York City. The bottom line is that if you want to build an audience around your product or service, then pay attention to who your target market really is and start building from there. What are their interests? Where do they hang out online? What kind of things would really appeal to them?
7. If you can’t make it perfect, release it anyway
It’s OK to launch an imperfect digital product. As much as we all want to delay launching until everything is perfect, there’re real-world constraints on your time. In reality, your digital product is NOT going to be perfect; it will never be – not if you do it RIGHT, at least.
When trying to go from concept to creation quickly, you have two options:
- Option 1: Wait forever until something is perfect or;
- Option 2: Settle on something that’s good enough and get it out there before moving on to other things.
I recommend Option 2 because waiting forever rarely works out in business (or life). There’s no such thing as a perfect plan so don’t let perfection keep you from taking ACTION Today!
Wrapping up…
After you have launched your first digital product, it’s time to move on to bigger and better things.
There’re two primary reasons to keep going:
- You might really enjoy working on your digital product and want to keep doing so.
- You can create a real business out of it and generate revenue.
So, make sure to start your new project when you’re ready – and don’t forget to apply what you have learned from the first one :)
